    Shangumugham Beach

    Shanghumugham beach is considered as the ‘Arattukadavu’ of Sri Ananthapadmanabhan - The presiding deity of the city. Thousands of Hindus perform ‘Bali Tharpanam’ during special occasions. The spectacular sculpture of a mermaid named as Matsya Kanya made by Kanayi Kunhiraman adds beauty to the beach. It is an important attraction seen in Shankhumugham Beach. The sculpture with amazing architectural beauty captures all eyes of tourists. It is nearly 35m in length and presents a real feast for visitor’s eyes. The Star-shaped restaurant is another popular attraction seen at Shankumugham beach. Fishing is a major activity here. Shankumugham Beach has a military airport of the Southern Air Command of the Indian Air Force. Indoor recreation club and the 'Jawaharlal Nehru Park of Traffic signs for children' is situated here, which is helpful for the children to understand the traffic rules while playing in the park. The park also provides cycling facilities for small children.
